Aston Villa are attempting to bring in a new manager.

According to the Daily Star, former Aston Villa duo Stiliyan Petrov and Dwight Yorke are interested in taking the managerial job – but are ultimately unlikely to get it.
Villa sacked manager Steve Bruce last week after a run of just one win in nine games, with the 3-3 home draw with Preston North End proving to be his final game in charge.
Now, new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are working with chief executive Christian Purslow to find a new boss, and a host of names have been touted.
Thierry Henry, Rui Faria and Brendan Rodgers are three of the favourites with bookmakers, but no appointment seems imminent at this stage as Villa use the international break to consider their options.
Now, the Daily Star report that two wildcard options are in the mix, with Stiliyan Petrov and Dwight Yorke both registering their interest in landing the job.
However, it’s stated that neither are likely to secure the post, and Villa aren’t put off by Celtic boss Rodgers saying that he is committed to the Bhoys rather than eyeing a move to Villa Park.

Petrov, 39, spent seven years as a player with Villa before being an academy and then team coach with the club, but with no managerial experience, it always seemed unlikely that he would be appointed.
The same goes for Yorke, who became a Villa hero in a nine-year stint with the club before heading to Manchester United in 1998. Yorke puts himself forward whenever the Villa post is available, but his only major experience is as assistant manager of Trinidad and Tobago, and Villa most likely feel that he doesn’t have the credentials for the job.
