Liverpool are reportedly set to lure Pepijn Lijnders back to the club.
According to Goal, Liverpool are set to hand a return to former coach Pepijn Lijnders, bringing him back to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s assistant manager.
The Reds lost Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid, as Mohamed Salah’s injury and two disastrous Loris Karius errors contributed to a 3-1 defeat in Kiev.
Klopp and co have wasted no time in looking ahead to next season though, as they tied up a sudden and unexpected swoop for Monaco defensive midfielder Fabinho on Monday night.
Plans are continuing to be formed, and whilst fans will be looking for more signings – such as Roma’s Alisson or Lyon star Nabil Fekir – manager Klopp will be searching for a new assistant manager.
Bosnian Zeljko Buvac has been on a leave of absence for a month now and doesn’t look set to return to aid Klopp again despite working together at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, with a successor needed.
Now, Goal report that a familiar face is set to return to Anfield as Klopp’s right-hand man, with Pepijn Lijnders seemingly nearing a move back to Merseyside ahead of the pre-season schedule.
Lijnders, 35, was a First Team Development Coach at Liverpool before leaving to become NEC Nijmegen manager earlier this year, but was sacked on the 17th of May having failed to win promotion to the Eredivisie.
The Dutchman attended Saturday’s Champions League final ahead of a potential return, with a deal now looking close as Lijnders prepares to step into Buvac’s shoes and assist Klopp.
