It’s been a fairly poor season for Tottenham Hotspur.
Yes, they’re in the last 16 of the Europa League and they have a League Cup final with Manchester City on the horizon as Jose Mourinho looks to end the club’s 13-year trophy drought.
But remember, Tottenham were top of the Premier League table a little over two months ago.
Now, Mourinho’s side are ninth in the table and nine points behind in the race for a top-four finish.
As far as declines go, the Lilywhites’ has been sudden and dramatic and there’s been speculation about the Portuguese manager’s future.
According to The Telegraph, Julian Nagelsmann is chairman Daniel Levy’s top pick to replace Mourinho, should it get to that.
But another report from The Independent today claims that Levy is firmly behind the former Manchester United and Chelsea coach, with some close to the club believing that the chairman is ‘under his spell’.
The report adds that people close to the boardroom feel that Mourinho’s time at Tottenham is already done, but that Levy continues to have faith.
For now, it would appear as if the 58-year-old, whose side secured an 8-1 aggregate win over Wolfsberger in the Europa League this week, has retained the support of the playing staff, but with Mourinho, he’s never miles away from a mutiny and if their domestic form worsens, so too will Levy’s belief.
