Manuel Pellegrini reportedly wants Leicester’s Eduardo Macia to become West Ham United’s new head of recruitment.

Manuel Pellegrini of Manchester City looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on May 8, 2016 in Manchester, England.

One of Manuel Pellegrini’s first decisions since being named West Ham United manager is for the club to hire Eduardo Macia as their new head of recruitment, according to the Mirror.

Macia, who currently has the same role at Leicester City, has been on the Hammers’ radar for some time and Pellegrini is keen for the appointment to happen.

Hiring the 44-year-old will be part of a complete overhaul of how transfer business is run at the London Stadium, with football.london reporting how co-owner David Sullivan has relinquished his involvement after recent failed attempts to sign William Carvalho and Leander Dendoncker from Sporting and Anderlecht respectively – both which ended in public embarrassment for the East London outfit.

Macia will also help fill the void left by the departure of Tony Henry from West Ham, who was sacked in February after allegedly making racist remarks about African players.

Pellegrini will have full control over any new signings the club makes.

Who is he?

Macia has been with Leicester since the summer of 2016, hired from Real Betis to replace Steve Walsh following his move to become Everton’s director of football.

Before that the Spaniard held similar roles at Olympiacos, Fiorentina, Valencia and Liverpool – credited with overseeing the signings of Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano, Dirk Kuyt and Raheem Sterling during his time with the latter.
