West Ham United appear to be a strong contender for Andre Gomes.

Andre Gomes of Everton applauds the fans after the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton Fc at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 12, 2019 in London, England.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini has made Andre Gomes a ‘priority target’ for the club this summer.

Gomes, 25, had fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona, and decided to join Everton on loan last summer to try and kickstart his career.

The Portuguese international became a favourite at Goodison Park, featuring prominently in Marco Silva’s midfield, leaving fans to hope for a permanent move.

The Daily Mail now report that whilst Tottenham appear to have dropped out of the race for Gomes, West Ham boss Pellegrini has made him a ‘priority target’.

It’s claimed that West Ham have already offered Barcelona £18million for Gomes, which was rejected as his price tag is somewhere around £30million.

With Pellegrini so insistent on a move, West Ham may well return with a new offer, but with Everton likely to want him too, a real battle may ensue.

Everton's Andre Gomes

Gomes is slightly more forward-thinking than Declan Rice and Mark Noble, and Pellegrini may want the trio to play together, but that takes a number 10 out of the side.

Really, a partnership of Gomes and Rice would be ideal, but whether Pellegrini dares to take Noble out of the side remains to be seen, given his importance over the years.
