West Ham United look set to sell midfielder Pedro Obiang.
According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang will undergo a medical with Sassuolo today ahead of a £7million move.
The Hammers snapped up Obiang from Sampdoria in 2015, with Slaven Bilic making the midfielder his first signing for just £4.3million (Standard).
Obiang has racked up more than 100 appearances for the Hammers in the last four years, but has fund himself slipping down Manuel Pellegrini’s pecking order.
Now, a return to Serie A is on the cards, with Sassuolo poised to bring him back to Italy as a replacement for Stefano Sensi, who has joined Inter Milan.
Obiang needs first-team football, and at 27 he won’t want to waste any more time sat on the sidelines at West Ham when he could be featuring prominently elsewhere.
West Ham will at least make a profit on Obiang, and whilst it isn’t a huge amount, it will at least serve as a small financial boost after big outlays on Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller.
With Declan Rice, Mark Noble, Jack Wilshere and Fornals in the mix, West Ham do have midfield options, but would still be wise to pursue a replacement for Obiang if possible.
There are seemingly a couple of issues to iron out in Obiang’s move, but with his medical happening today, it seems that his time in East London has come to an end.
