The 46-year-old is hardly the most well known candidate but, if the odds are to be believed, he could soon be Rangers next manager.
After the Mark Warburton reign ended somewhat prematurely, you get the feeling that Rangers should be on the lookout for a long-term solution in order to help lay the foundations for a new dynasty at Ibrox.
Yet, The Scotsman suggests that Pedro Caixinha, a surprise and left-field managerial candidate, may view one of the most illustrious jobs in British football as little more than a stepping stone and a route into the Premier League.
Links with the largely unknown 46-year-old have come straight out of the blue, with Sky Bet rating his odds of taking over as 9/4.
Nonetheless, this is not the first time Caixinha, a close friend of Jose Mourinho, has been linked with a role at Ibrox – although his ambitions appear to stretch beyond the Scottish top flight, a factor which should elicit a degree of concern in the Rangers board.
The Daily Record claimed back in 2015 that the current Al-Gharafa coach, who has also managed in Mexico and Portugal, had been on the brink of moving to Glasgow in 2015 before Warburton was appointed as the permanent successor to Stuart McCall with Rangers still in the second division. The publication reports that he was set to be named as the assistant to Vitor Pereira (below) as Rangers continued their ambitious pursuit of the then Olympiakos coach.
However, with Caixinha currently earning £2 million a year in Qatar, the Daily Record add, cash-strapped Rangers may have their work cut out convincing him to swap it all for the challenge at Ibrox.
Then again, if Rangers are attempting to rebuild themselves via a long-term project, perhaps the former Santos Laguna coach is not the right man for the job.
