Glasgow Rangers have reportedly made the Portuguese their number one managerial target.

A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Pedro Caixinha has been in talks with Rangers for more than a week as the Scottish Premiership side look to fill the vacant manager’s position at Ibrox, but they face competition from his current club.
The Record reports that the current Al-Gharafa coach’s contract with the Qatari club expires in three months time, and perhaps sensing that the 46-year-old is now a wanted man, Caixinha is about to be offered an extension to his £2 million a year deal, which involves the kind of numbers that the Gers simply cannot compete with.
However, promisingly for Rangers, the Record adds that the Portuguese’s desire to get back into European football would tempt him to consider a significant pay cut, and judging by how long he has been in discussions with the Gers, it seems that he could well be Ibrox-bound.
The news would certainly suggest that the Light Blues’ search for Mark Warburton’s successor may be coming to an end with the Rangers hierarchy speaking to the retired goalkeeper for a significant period of time and with Caixinha’s desire to head back to Europe.
Whether Caixinha is the right man for Rangers or not remains to be seen if he ends up getting the job, but Gers fans will surely be delighted that some of the uncertainty surrounding their club at the moment looks set to end soon.
Graeme Murty may have led the side to a narrow victory over St Johnstone on Wednesday, but it would hardly be a surprise if the question regarding who the next boss will be is having a negative impact on the squad, so making an appointment could be a positive step for the side’s chances of catching Aberdeen in the race for second and building some momentum going into the summer.
