Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has made a last ditch attempt to stop Billy Gilmour quitting the club for Chelsea, report The Express.

Goal reported on Monday that Gilmour is set to move to the Blues when he turns 16 in June.

Gilmour is just 15, but has been starring for the under-20s this season, and is thought to not be too far off a first team chance.

Caixinha reportedly held talks with Gilmour, and his family, on Monday as part of a late charm offensive in a bid to try and convince him to stay.

The new manager offered assurances that there is a clear route to the Rangers first team if he continues to progress.

His move leaves the ball in Gilmour’s court, with time still in play for the Scottish whizkid to make a dramatic U-turn.

If he can then it will represent a major win for Caixinha, and show that Rangers can hang onto their best young talents, absolutely key if they are going to catch up with Celtic in coming seasons.
