Paul Mitchell has decided to stay with Red Bull rather than head to Arsenal or Manchester United.
According to Sky Sports, Paul Mitchell has decided to snub interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in favour of a new contract with Red Bull.
Mitchell made his name at Southampton, helping them recruit a host of talents, most notably Sadio Mane before leaving to follow Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Wigan Athletic man helped bring Toby Alderweireld and Dele Alli to Spurs, but handed in his notice after just two years in the job, eventually leaving to join RB Leipzig.
Mitchell’s official job title with Leipzig is ‘Head of Recruitment and Development’, meaning he oversaw deals for Nordi Mukiele, Christopher Nkunku and even English duo Emile Smith Rowe on loan and Ademola Lookman permanently.
Now though, Mitchell is set to take on a different role. It’s claimed that Mitchell has decied to become Technical Director of Red Bull’s Global Soccer division, meaning he’ll likely oversee operations with Red Bull Salzburg, Red Bull New York and RB Leipzig.
That means that the Englisman won’t be heading home, with the report noting that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were all keen to add him as a technical director.
The report claims four teams have been left disappointed that Mitchell has snubbed them in favour of a new deal with Red Bull, meaning they will have to look elsewhere for a talent spotter.
Mitchell is still only 38 though, meaning a future return to England shouldn’t be completely ruled out, it just looks unlikely for the foreseeable future.
