According to L’Equipe, Monaco are now pushing for the signing of Stade de Reims defender Axel Disasi following Paul Mitchell’s arrival.
It’s claimed that Monaco are suddenly moving to try and sign Disasi, with ‘repeated phone calls’ made for his signature this summer.
Paul Mitchell has just been named as Monaco’s sporting director, and it seems that Disasi is one of his priorities after a strong season with Reims.
Talks have started with Reims, but Southampton are in negotiations too. Rennes and Wolves are speaking to the Ligue 1 side about a deal, with a deal of around €20million (£18million) expected.
Disasi, 22, is a big, physical presence at 6ft 3in tall, and with ability on the ball too, it’s no great surprise that clubs are seeing him as a potential star of the future.
Mitchell could disappoint one former club in Southampton by securing Disasi’s signature for Monaco, but also another in Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that Tottenham had made contact about a deal for Disasi, in the hope of beating Southampton and Arsenal to his signature.
Spurs need to find another centre back with Jan Vertonghen on the move this summer, but Disasi’s price appears to be rising despite him being out of contract in 2021.
Ex-Tottenham recruitment chief Mitchell could now come back to haunt Spurs with a deal for Disasi – leaving Jose Mourinho to go back to the drawing board.
