According to the Daily Mail’s live transfer feed (4th January 2018; 15:47), Paul Lambert has turned down Sheffield Wednesday’s contract offer prompting the Owls to decide to look abroad for their next manager.

Wednesday are still without a boss after parting company with Carlos Carvalhal following their defeat to Middlesbrough just before Christmas, but it had appeared that the Championship side had identified their number one target.

According to the Mail, the Owls made a move for Lambert – whose last managerial job came at Wolves last season where he helped keep the side in the division before leaving in the summer – and offered him a six-month contract.

However, the Mail reports on its live transfer feed (4th January 2018; 15:47) that Lambert has turned the club down as he feels that the deal does not give him long enough to turn things around at Hillsborough.

The Mail adds that Sheffield Wednesday are now expected to look overseas as they continue to look for Carvalhal’s successor, with Germany being suggested as a possible market they may look at.

Despite how his tenure ended, Carvalhal’s spell in charge may give Owls fans hope that looking abroad may be a wise move. The Portuguese is the only foreign manager in the club’s history and he led the side to play-off finishes in both of his full seasons in charge.
