Paul Heckingbottom is hoping to strengthen his backroom options at Leeds United this summer.

Heckingbottom appears to still be adjusting to life at Elland Road, and it has not been easy. Following his switch from Barnsley, the 40-year-old has overseen just two victories and the Whites’ slide down the Championship table has continued.

It would not be a surprise if he was looking at big changes amongst the playing squad over the summer – or, at least the fans will be hoping that there will be some substantial improvements in certain areas – but it appears that he is also keen to bolster his backroom team during the coming months also.
According to The Sun on Sunday (15/04; pg 61), Heckingbottom is keen to add another coach to his ranks ahead of next season having not been able to make substantial changes when he arrived, with Jamie Clapham being one of those who came with him from Oakwell.

An indication on Heckingbottom’s future?
Heckingbottom is coming under increasing pressure from supporters. It is not particularly difficult to find some Leeds fans who would prefer his tenure was brought to an end now before he oversees too many changes.
With Victor Orta playing such a key role in recruitment, Heckingbottom being able to add his backroom team could perhaps be one of the clearer signs that Andrea Radrizzani has no plans to get rid of the Englishman in the near future.
It will not be clear who was the driving force behind each signing that the club makes during the summer, but if Heckingbottom gets a coach in that he wants, it is perhaps a message that the owner is keen for the head coach to put greater foundations in – and that may just hint that this poor start to his tenure has done little to dampen Radrizzani’s confidence.
