Roma forward Patrik Schick has reportedly snubbed Newcastle United.

According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma forward Patrik Schick has rejected a move to join Newcastle United before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Schick, 23, hit the headlines in the 2016-17 season with Sampdoria, as he hit 11 goals in 28 games for the Serie A side having signed from Sparta Prague.

A move to Roma followed, but he has struggled to enjoy similar success in the Italian capital, scoring just five Serie A goals in two seasons for them.

New manager Paulo Fonseca is moulding his own squad, and Schick could go – but he’s allegedly turned down an approach from Newcastle.

It’s thought that Schick doesn’t want a move to St James’ Park, and is instead pursuing a move to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, who have some interest.

It’s unclear whether Newcastle’s bid was a loan or permanent move, but it would be something of a surprise if this one is true.

Earlier this week, boss Steve Bruce suggested that he’s happy with his attacking options, claiming he has five strikers in his squad; new boy Joelinton, Yoshinori Muto and returning loanee Dwight Gayle, as well as Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Schick would be a fine addition to those options, but another striker doesn’t appear to be an immediate priority for Bruce and co ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
