Report: Pardew wants Evans’ West Brom future decided by Sunday; defender open to Arsenal move

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Pardew wants Jonny Evans’ future resolved by the end of the week as Arsenal reopen talks.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Alan Pardew has set a deadline of this Sunday for a decision to be made regarding Jonny Evans’ West Brom future as the defender gives Arsenal some encouragement in their pursuit.

Evans has been heavily linked with The Hawthorns exit this month, and it appears that he is keen to consider leaving the Baggies during this window.

The Mail reports that the Gunners have restarted talks regarding a move for the Northern Ireland international, and, having previously been reluctant about the idea of moving down to London, Evans is now open to the option.

However, it appears that Arsenal may not have until next week’s deadline to get a move for Evans done. The Mail reports that Pardew has suggested that he wants a resolution to the situation by Sunday – whether the former Manchester United man stays or goes – so he has time, if he does leave, to bring some attacking players in.

It is surely an extremely difficult situation for Pardew. Evans is one of West Brom’s best players, so while his departure may leave him with the funds to strengthen in other areas, the defence will undoubtedly be weaker.

However, with the Mail adding that Evans would be able to leave for just £3 million in the summer if the Baggies are relegated, and with Sky Sports recently reporting that he has just 18 months left on his current contract, keeping him at the club may prove to be the bigger gamble in the long run.
