Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that Tottenham star is desperate to leave Tottenham ‘at all costs’, growing ‘unhappy’ since joining the club last summer. Real Sociedad are eyeing a loan move for Gil.
Gil, 20, joined Tottenham in the summer in a player-plus-cash deal from Sevilla. Having starred at Eibar on loan the season beforehand, Spurs chose to spend £21.6million and include Erik Lamela in a deal for the Spain star.
Fast forward until now and Gil has only managed nine starts, with a change of manager unlikely to have helped the Spurs wonderkid. A loan move has been touted with numerous Spanish and French clubs interested.
The report claims that Sociedad want to bring in Gil to replace the injured Ander Barrenetxea. It claims that Gil is unhappy at Spurs and is looking to leave North London ‘at all costs’. A loan deal is the most-likely scenario.
Gil eyes Tottenham exit: Should Spurs let him join Sociedad?
Unfortunately, it has not worked out so far for Gil. What he does have on his side, though, is plenty of time given his age. He has shown glimpses, perhaps enough to convince Spurs he has a long-term future at the club.
Tottenham do have plenty of competition – Son Heung-min, a rejuvenated Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and the possible incoming signings of Luis Diaz and Adama Traore. A loan might just boost Gil’s confidence.
