Crystal Palace are ready to offer a new long-term deal to Andros Townsend after interest from West Bromwich Albion, according to The Sunday Mirror (25 October, page 73).

Townsend is said to have been a West Brom target in summer transfer window, but remained at Selhurst Park.

His future there though is far from certain, with his contract due to expire next summer.

And it is claimed that Roy Hodgson, the Crystal Palace manager, wants to avoid losing him for free at that point.

Townsend’s situation could yet leave Palace braced for bids from the likes of West Brom in January, if a solution has not been found by then.

The 29-year-old winger has made a positive start to the new campaign, playing every single minute of Crystal Palace’s six Premier League fixtures and scoring or assisting three goals.

He was also heavily involved in Wilfried Zaha’s winner against Fulham on Saturday, freeing Michy Batshuayi to cross for the Eagles’ goalscorer.

West Brom could soon find themselves a man light in Townsend’s position, if Kamil Grosicki is granted a move to Nottingham Forest.
