Report: Palace expected to reject Tottenham’s £40m Zaha bid

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to go back in for Wilfried Zaha at the end of the season, but may need to pay more than £40 million.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham should brace themselves to see their planned £40 million bid for Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha rejected – but it is still likely that the winger will leave Selhurst Park in the summer.

Zaha has played a key role in giving the Eagles the chance to go into the final part of the season with their destiny in their own hands in the battle to remain in the Premier League. Palace have lost all of their games in which the 25-year-old has not played.

The Mail reports that Spurs are plotting a £40 million bid for the end of the season – two years after the club made bids of £12 million and £21 million for the former Manchester United man – but should expect Palace to, once again, reject the offer as they deem Zaha to be worth significantly more.

The Mail adds that Zaha is still expected to leave regardless of what division Palace finds themselves in, but Tottenham can not expect an easy ride to bag his signature with Chelsea also monitoring his situation.

Should Spurs increase their bid?

It will interesting to see whether Tottenham do increase their offer if, as expected, Crystal Palace knock back the bid of £40 million, as Zaha is undoubtedly an extremely talented player.

However, despite his influence for Palace this season, he has scored just four goals and provided two assists for the Eagles, so Pochettino may surely need to be certain that he can take the Ivory Coast international to the next level if he is going to give an increased bid the green light.

With Chelsea waiting in the wings, it would appear that there is plenty of pressure on Tottenham’s decision.
