The former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom is ‘packing his suitcases’ after agreeing a move to Middlesbrough, according to On Sports.
The Greek website claims Akpom’s current employers, PAOK Thessaloniki, accepted an offer of €3 million (around £2.8m) from Middlesbrough.
The former England Under-21 international came through the ranks at Arsenal and is said to have been ‘positive’ about a return to the country of his birth.
And PAOK are now moving to acquire his replacement ahead of their upcoming Champions League qualifying games against Krasnodar, having overcome Benfica on Tuesday.
Akpom has scored or made 27 goals in 79 games for PAOK, whom he has helped to secure first- and second-placed finishes after joining from Arsenal.
The 24-year-old was a teammate of the current Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga when he was on loan at Nottingham Forest from the Gunners.
He has also represented Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, Coventry City and Sint-Truiden, as well as Boro’s Yorkshire rivals, Hull City.
Middlesbrough were hoping to sign at least one new striker ahead of next month’s transfer deadline, according to The Northern Echo.
