Leeds United have failed to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.
Leeds United are set to lose over £1 million in ticket refunds in the summer, according to The Sun.
“Leeds had originally pledged to refund 50 per cent of fans’s season tickets if they did not reach the play-offs this season, if 15,000 were sold,” states the report in the British tabloid.
“They fell slightly short of this number, and so fans would instead receive a 25 per cent cashback on the fees they paid out provided they bought their ticket before the end of May 2016.”
According to The Sun, Leeds’s promise at the start of the season will cost them over £1m in refunds.
Disappointing end to the season
Leeds did not start the season strongly, but results soon picked up and it did look very likely at one stage that they will end up in the top six of the Championship.
However, recent results have been disappointing and mean that the Whites will not claim a place in the playoffs, and the West Yorkshire outfit are set to continue to play in the second tier of English football.
The Whites are one of the biggest clubs in England, and one suspects that fans would have been happier if the team had qualified for the playoffs than getting refunds on tickets.
Leeds will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Wigan Athletic away from home at the DW Stadium in the Championship. The players will be determined to end the season on a winning note.
