Newcastle United, Southampton, Norwich City, Sunderland and Aston Villa are all also reportedly interested in Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin.

Crystal Palace are favourites to sign Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window, according to The Northern Echo.

A number of other Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the striker, but the newspaper has provided three reasons why Palace are set to beat them all to the prized signature of the 26-year-old.

According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United, Southampton and Norwich City all want Austin, but, as stated in the report: “Palace are currently regarded as the favourites given their position in the top half of the table, their willingness to meet QPR’s asking price and their ability to offer Austin the opportunity to remain in London.”

It has been reported that QPR, who got relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, will demand a transfer fee of around £12m.

A recent report in The Daily Star claimed that Sunderland are looking at Austin, who is also reported by The Daily Mail to be the subject of interest from Aston Villa.

Austin has struggled with injuries this season, but he remains one of the best strikers in the Championship.

The former Burnley star has scored 10 goals and created 17 chances in 16 league matches for QPR so far this season.

The in-demand Englishman has a pass accuracy of 63% and a shot accuracy of 49%, and has won 53 headers, nine dribbles and 13 tackles.
