Tottenham Hotspur have become notorious for strictly adhering to their wage structure.
A report from the Mirror this morning claims that Spurs are set to offer Toby Alderweireld a new double-your-money deal that would see him earn in the region of £100,000 per week.
The 28-year-old is considered to be one of the finest centre-backs not only in the Premier League, but on the world stage, yet he is currently earning a weekly wage of just £50,000 at Tottenham.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld
The Belgian joined the Lilywhites from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £11.5 million, and has since established himself as one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key men, making 88 appearances in the process.
Many Spurs fans have been concerned that they could lose Alderweireld though, with so many of Europe’s elite clubs monitoring his ongoing contract situation.
The Mirror suggest that those worries could soon be over, however, with the Tottenham hierarchy set to offer the Belgium international a new deal that would bring his earnings in line with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris at £100,000 per week.
Whilst Daniel Levy has become notorious for being stubborn when it comes to paying his star names the market rate, he will surely be looking at Alderweireld as a key part of his club’s future, and £100,000 per week for a player like him seems to be more than a fair deal for all parties concerned.
