The Everton star has been attracting attention from Tottenham Hotspur all summer long.
Spurs’ hopes of signing Ross Barkley appear to have taken a huge blow, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Toffees ace is set to be out of action for up to three months with a torn hamstring.
The 23-year-old was one of Tottenham’s key transfer targets this summer, with the Lilywhites prepared to pay around £25 million to acquire his services, according to the Telegraph.
Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to add more guile and creativity to his midfield before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month, and he saw the Everton ace as the ideal man for the job.
Their move for Barkley could now be in jeopardy, however, with the Daily Mail reporting that he could be set for surgery, after suffering a serious tear on his hamstring during training this week.
The north London outfit will surely now want to wait until at least January before committing to a deal for the 23-year-old, and if they do decide to do just that, Pochettino will have to switch targets, because there can be no denying Spurs’ need for another accomplished attacking midfielder, ahead what will be a long and physically punishing campaign on all fronts.
