The Frenchman has been heavily linked with leaving the Championship side this summer.

A report in the Daily Mirror has claimed that Juventus are willing to do a deal for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko but not for the asking price that the Magpies have slapped on the Frenchman’s head.

The Mirror reports that the 27-year-old is determined to leave St James’ Park this summer, and that the Old Lady is ideally the club he wishes to join.

However, it is difficult to imagine a move to Juventus Stadium taking place during this window as the Mirror adds that Juve are only willing to pay £15m, which is considerably short of the £35m that the Championship side want for the player.

While the Mirror claims that Mike Ashley is ready to keep hold of Sissoko until their valuation is met, it would surely be a gamble for him to remain as part of Rafael Benitez’s squad if it is deemed that he has no future on Tyneside.

Not only could his presence amongst the squad prove detrimental to the mood as they look to get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, but having him sat on the sidelines for a year would make it difficult for them to justify asking for as much as £15m next summer.

With Benitez’s men proving recently that they do not need the former Toulouse man to do well in the second tier, it surely makes sense for a compromise to be reached with the Italian giants this summer as it would give them the funds to sign players who do want to play for the club.
