Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has spent the past 10 days in a boot camp in a Qatari desert, according to The Daily Record.

It has been reported that the former Newcastle United midfielder Barton left his family in Scotland last week in order to train in Qatar.

The Daily Record has claimed that the 34-year-old has been training “alone three times a day in temperatures tipping 100 degrees as he attempts to get back into top shape ahead of his return to Auchenhowie”.

The Daily Record has reported that the former Manchester City midfielder will return to Rangers on Monday after serving his suspension.

Barton joined Rangers in the summer transfer window after leaving English club Burnley at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Englishman was expected to be a huge success at Ibrox, but he has struggled to play to the best of his ability so far this season.

Mark Warburton’s side are fifth in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 12 points from eight matches, seven points behind leaders Celtic, who have a game in hand.
