Tottenham Hotspur could face a battle to keep hold of one of their key men in the summer.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris during training
A report emanating from France today suggests that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has lost patience with Keylor Navas, and wants to replace the Costa Rican with Spurs stopper Hugo Lloris, according to French media outlet L’Equipe.
And whilst most Tottenham fans will be anything but happy upon hearing of Los Blancos’ interest in one of their key men, there could be potential for them to make large gains from any kind of deal.
Could a swap deal involving Navas, Lloris and Isco be at all viable?
Mauricio Pochettino is a long-term admirer of the 24-year-old Spaniard, and he could use Madrid’s reported interest in Lloris as leverage in an attempt to bring him to White Hart Lane.
Obviously, by losing someone of the France international’s pedigree would be a bitter pill to swallow for the Lilywhites, but if the La Liga giants sent Navas in the opposite direction, they would be gaining a goalkeeper with very similar attributes to their number one.
Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas celebrates
The 30-year-old Costa Rica international is the same age as Lloris, and is equally as comfortable with the ball at his feet, which is paramount for a Tottenham team who like to play the ball out from the back.
Whilst he is not as good a shot-stopper as the Frenchman, with 68 international caps, along with a Champions League winners medal to his name, he would still be an able replacement.
And along with the potential arrival of Isco in north London, allowing Lloris to move to the Bernabeu could very well turn out to be good business for Tottenham.
