Liverpool will be desperate to secure a deal for the Frenchman.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool’s deal to sign Lyon ace Nabil Fekir has stalled, and is unlikely to be completed before the start of the World Cup in Russia this summer.

The France international was reportedly on the verge of joining the Reds yesterday, after the club’s medical staff jetted to Paris to meet Fekir and oversee his medical.

The Daily Mail now claim that Liverpool’s deal to sign Fekir will not go through before the World Cup kicks off, in news that will be greeted with great unease on Merseyside.

The British newspaper goes on to suggest that there have been unsubstantiated claims that there were problems with the 24-year-old’s medical, but Liverpool have not responded to those claims.

Fekir was in sensational form for Lyon last season, chalking up 23 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances in all competitions, with all of those coming from an attacking midfield role.

The France international will undoubtedly take Liverpool to another level, but a deal to bring him to Anfield is far from being finalised, and that will leave the Reds fans feeling uneasy to say the least.

There is still plenty of time to get a deal for the Lyon star over the line, however, and given the 24-year-old’s desperation to join Liverpool, it is hard to envisage a scenario where he doesn’t move to Merseyside this summer.
