The Tottenham Hotspur right-back has been missed over the past few weeks.
According to a report from the Independent, Serge Aurier could be back and available for selection for Tottenham’s trip to Cardiff City tomorrow, having missed three weeks with a groin problem, and the Ivorian’s potential return could not have come at a better time.
Kieran Trippier has been outstanding for Spurs over the past two or three years, but his performances recently have been well below par, and having Aurier back will be a great boost for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
The 26-year-old joined Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £23 million, but he has mostly played second fiddle to Trippier, making just 20 Premier League starts.
The Independent claims that he could be ready to face Cardiff tomorrow, and if he is fully fit, Pochettino would be wise to start him in place of the England international.
Aurier is somewhat of a divisive figure at Tottenham, but on his day, it could be argued that the Ivory Coast international is actually just as good as Trippier.
And with Pochettino’s need to inject more energy into his side following their lethargic display against Wolves on Saturday, a fit and fully firing Aurier will be just the ticket for Spurs as they look to kick off the new year with a bang.
