Reports emanating from Spain today suggest that Spurs have been dealt a severe blow in their hopes of signing Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa, after Barcelona emerged as contenders for the Brazilian’s signature, according to Spanish media outlet Sport.
The 26-year-old former Shakhtar Donetsk star has fallen out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti at the Allianz Arena, and German outlet Bild claim that the Bavarian giants are willing to cash in on Costa, with a £30 million price-tag being mooted.

Tottenham were believed to hold a strong interest in the Munich man, according to the Mirror, but their chances of bringing him to north London appear to have diminished with Sport’s report claiming that La Liga giants Barca have joined them in the race to sign Costa.
The newspaper claim that the 18-capped Brazil international has emerged as a primary target for the Catalonians, as Ernesto Valverde begins his overhaul of the Barca squad.
One would imagine that two key factors in Costa’s decision-making process of where he wants to ply his trade next season will be the guarantee of regular first-team game-time and whether or not there will be Champions League football on offer.

And that could be where Spurs still have a chance of winning the race to sign him, with competition for places in the forward positions at the Nou Camp fierce to say the very least.
As has proven to be the case so often down the years, however, the lure of one of the two Spanish giants can be hard to resist.
