Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are three of the biggest clubs in England.
It has been reported that Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland have reached a gentleman’s agreement.
“The north-east accord stems from the clubs’ realisation that due to geography they have a limited number of players to pick from and are better served concentrating on developing those already on their books,” states the report in The Times.
“There is competition between them to sign non-registered players, but no players under 18 are induced to switch clubs.”
This is quite an interesting agreement, one that could see all the three North-East clubs thrive in the long run.
Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough are big rivals, but it seems that they are willing to work together in order to progress and prosper as football clubs.
Both Sunderland and Middlesbrough are playing in the Championship this season and are aiming to get promoted to the Premier League.
The Black Cats and Boro got relegated from the top flight of English football at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
Newcastle won automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of last season.
The Magpies are doing relatively well in the Premier League at the moment and should be able to retain their top-flight status for the 2018-19 campaign.
