All Nigeria Soccer report that Arsenal midfielder Tim Akinola has been ruled out for four months after going under the knife to fix an ankle injury sustained while on loan at Dundee United, picked up during training.
Akinola, 20, was on the receiving end of a ‘horrendous’ tackle from United’s Marc McNulty. Although the striker is said to be one of the first to help and give aid, Akinola has had to undergo an operation to correct the issue.
It will see the Nigeria-born Arsenal talent miss the rest of the season and potentially the start of next – with four months on the sidelines. He had only joined the Scottish Premiership side in January, making only one outing.
His current Arsenal contract is due to expire at the end of the season – but Gunners fan account ArseBlog did claim earlier this season that a one-year extension will be triggered. But until August, Akinola will be injured.
Akinola injury: Could he leave Arsenal without making debut?
Akinola is certainly deserving of a chance and probably should have played more than just the once since going to Tannadice in January. The injury is a blow, given United sit in fourth and Akinola might have got a chance.
It is unclear if Akinola has penned an extension, or if he will do. But even if he does remain at The Emirates until June 2023, it is likely he will go on loan again. It means that Akinola is unlikely to get his Arsenal bow.
