Spanish newspaper SPORT claim that other Premier League clubs are interested in signing Tottenham man Clement Lenglet with his loan deal due to end in the summer – and Spurs boasting no permanent clause in the agreement.

Lenglet, 27, joined Spurs on loan from Barcelona in the summer and has since played 26 times in league and cup for the North Londoners. Whether that be on the left of a back three, or in the middle of Antonio Conte’s Spurs defence.

There is an argument to say that Lenglet has been Spurs’ best signing of 2022-23. Richarlison and Yves Bissouma have not lived up to their price tags. Ivan Perisic’s form has been up and down. Djed Spence has left to join Rennes on loan.

Fraser Forster’s form makes him a candidate but in terms of consistency, Lenglet has probably been Tottenham’s best. But, SPORT report that Antonio Conte leaving Spurs could see the club fail to strike a deal to keep Lenglet at the club.

The report also says that Lenglet could remain in England – but not at Spurs. Other Premier League clubs are showing interest in a move for the 15-time France star. It is believed Barcelona are willing to do business for a fee of £16million.

Tottenham need to be realistic and realise that moves for the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Josko Gvardiol or another quality left-footed defender is unlikely. Both players are likely to cost more than a fee of £60m in the coming months.

So, Spurs need to go for next best and who is better than a player that has shown consistency already in a Spurs shirt. Lenglet, at £16m, is good business. But if other Premier League clubs are showing interest, then Spurs must move fast.
