The Mirror claims Leeds United’s sporting director Victor Orta is ‘looking at’ three or four central midfielders this month – in the hope he brings in one. It is believed the Spaniard is ‘busy’, with three weeks left in the window.

The injury list at Leeds is getting worse, and worse. The club fielded a weakened side on Sunday against West Ham – but it was not by choice. Other than Raphinha being on the bench, it was the best they could do.

Up top, Patrick Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Tyler Roberts were all injured – Sam Greenwood starting, but picking up an injury. In midfield, Kalvin Phillips remains sidelined but even when fit – Leeds are lacking.

The Mirror reports that Orta is ‘busy’ working on new deals behind the scenes at Elland Road. They also claim that Orta is looking at three or four new midfielders, in the hope he can bring in one new midfield signing.

The likes of Weston McKennie, Boubacar Kamara, Aaron Ramsey and Nahitan Nandez have all been touted as potential options. But the Mirror name drops those and more – ruling them out of a move to Yorkshire.

Given that the injury list has only prompted Orta into getting things started now, the chances are that new signings might not come through the door until the latter stages of the month. But it is good news for Leeds fans.

Many will be hoping for a new striker and perhaps a no.10, too. But time will tell, and Leeds fans cannot expect anything for about a fortnight.
