According to the Daily Mail, there is real optimism that Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga will be signing for Arsenal.
The Gunners were going to target a midfielder anyway this summer, but Granit Xhaka’s potential exit coupled with Dani Ceballos heading back to Real Madrid means two could come in.
A host of names have been linked, and the main one right now is that of Lokonga, with Arsenal seemingly pushing for a move.
Arsenal bid rejected, but confidence deal will be done
The Athletic and Het Laatste Nieuws report that Arsenal have had a bid of around £13million rejected for Lokonga.
The Mail claim that there is ‘optimism’ that Arsenal will be able to come back in with a new, successful bid for Lokonga.
That could be around £18million, but with the two sides not far away from an agreement, there’s confidence Lokonga will head to North London.
Who is Albert Sambi Lokonga?
Lokonga, 21, has come up through the Anderlecht academy which produced the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans and Vincent Kompany.
Lokonga is impressive on the ball and can either sit in front of the back four or get up and down the pitch, but isn’t the most physical midfielder just yet.
According to Voetbal 24, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry recommended Lokonga to the Gunners, which is a huge seal of approval for the youngster as he gears up for a big move.
