According to the Evening Standard, William Saliba is improving his grasp of English which is helping him gain a better understanding of how Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to play.
After returning from a season-long loan at AS Saint-Etienne, the £27 million centre-back was presumably hoping to be a part of the Spaniard’s plans at the Emirates this term.
However, Arteta has not handed Saliba a single minute of game-time, and also left the 19-year-old out of his Europe League squad.
The Bondy-born defender has only played youth football this term, making three Premier League 2 appearances and one in the EFL trophy.
The Evening Standard also mention that Arsenal wanted to loan the teenager back to AS Saint-Etienne, but they could not reach a deal with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Despite a lack of playing time hindering his development, it is actually a positive that Saliba is at Arsenal and learning under Arteta.
This way, the Frenchman can hopefully absorb everything the Spaniard is telling him, before stepping into the first-team next season.
It is good to see that Saliba’s English is improving. If it is helping him to better understand Arteta’s demands, then that is only going to improve the relationship between the pair.
