According to The Athletic, Liverpool are reportedly only willing to sign a new attacking player this summer if Roberto Firmino departs the club.
The Brazilian forward’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, but Liverpool have offered him a new contract to stay at Anfield.
If Firmino chooses not to extend his stay at the club, Liverpool will need to find a replacement for him. However, there’s reason to believe this will not be a marquee signing.

Indeed, Liverpool already have several attacking options in their squad, including Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez. Therefore, a new big-money arrival may not be a necessity for Liverpool, and a more low-key depth signing is probably more likely.
Firmino has been an integral part of Liverpool’s attack since joining the club in 2015, but his place in the squad has changed in recent times as the likes of Nunez, Jota and Diaz begin to establish themselves at Anfield.
That being said, Firmino has still played a vital role for the Reds this season and despite his recent injury issues, he’s the club’s third top scorer this season with nine goals.
Liverpool have been linked with several attacking players in recent months, including the likes of Ansu Fati and Mohamed Kudus linked with a move to Anfield.
While it’s always exciting to see new attackers come in, Liverpool’s need for a new striker will depend on the future of Firmino, and whether he decides to extend his stay at the club or move on.
With Jurgen Klopp stating his intention to keep Firmino, there may not be much summer movement on the striker front, but, as ever, the final decision rests in the hands of the player.
