J’Neil Bennett has reportedly gone back to Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs loaned the 19-year-old winger to Crewe Alexandra during the summer transfer window.
But that loan has been cut short in devastating circumstances.
Bennett, who started eight League One games this season, has been ruled out for up to 12 weeks.
That is according to Cheshire Live who have reported that the Tottenham prospect has returned to North London for the purpose of rehabilitation.
So cruel
The lad will be devastated by this – and rightly so.
It’s such a cruel blow to a youngster who was enjoying his football in the third tier.
This was Bennett’s first real taste of men’s football and the step-up in class from the Under-23 wasn’t phasing him all that much.
He scored in the 2-0 win over Burton Albion a couple of months ago, too.
The best he can expect is to get himself fit for Tottenham’s reserve side before the end of the season and then look for another loan next summer.
The good news is that he’s still only 19 and therefore he has time on his side.
But even still, suffering a medium-term ankle injury at this stage is upsetting, though he will bounce back for sure.
