Tottenham and Harry Kane have reportedly agreed to put contract talks on hold.

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur and star striker Harry Kane have agreed to put contract talks on hold after they couldn’t reach an agreement.

Kane, 23, has come up through the ranks at White Hart Lane, and with 59 goals in all competitions over the last two seasons, he’s made himself a White Hart Lane hero.

This term, Kane has hit three goals in seven games having been ruled out for nearly two months with an ankle injury, but he made his triumphant return earlier this month as he scored the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

One of English football’s leading lights, Kane has proven himself as a top striker – and he was rewarded for his success with a new contract in February 2015.

Now almost two years on from that deal, The Sun report that Kane and Spurs have been discussing new terms, but have agreed to put talks on hold having failed to come to an agreement.

It’s claimed that Spurs – headed by notoriously frugal chairman Daniel Levy – are refusing to give Kane a new contract in line with his fellow England strikers, and won’t break the £100,000-a-week barrier to keep him at the club.

Kane is allegedly on a deal worth around £60,000-a-week right now, but there is some concern over his future now given that summer signing Moussa Sissoko has reportedly been handed a huge £95,000-a-week contract, dwarfing Kane’s deal.

It’s added that a date to resume talks has not been set, and Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all keen to land Kane should he leave White Hart Lane.

With his current deal running until 2020, Spurs have plenty of time to get a deal done with Kane. There may be some agitation that an agreement hasn’t been reached just yet, but Levy surely wouldn’t pay Sissoko £95,000-a-week only to let Kane – a much more important player – leave because he wants around £100,000-a-week.

Spurs fans shouldn’t be too worried just yet, but with talks also stalling with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, chairman Levy may have to put his hand in his pocket to make sure that Tottenham’s world class stars stay at the club.
