Liverpool give themselves 10 days to make a decision about the Aston Villa man.
Liverpool will not pursue Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi beyond July, according to Le Parisien (cited by Get French Football).
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is under pressure to strengthen his left-back options after Alberto Moreno endured a nightmare in Liverpool’s Europa League final defeat by Sevilla.
The Aston Villa man has been touted as a potential arrival, but The Liverpool Echo reported earlier this summer that Klopp was not interested in bringing him to Anfield.
The 22-year-old is only just beginning to get fit again after an ankle problem curtailed more than half of his debut season with the Villans following a summer switch from Nice.
But the Frenchman had shown very promising signs of his attacking prowess in his opening few months at the West Midlands club.
Le Parisien claim that Klopp has long been interested in Amavi – with a desire to sign him even dating back to his days as Borussia Dortmund coach – but the report has suggested that the German will not prolong his interest if he has not signed him by the start of August.
Joe Gomez also represents an option for Klopp at left-back, but the Liverpool boss would be taking a huge gamble by relying on a 19-year-old who spent almost all of his first season on Merseyside out injured with a knee problem.
Gomez, signed by Brendan Rodgers, might be a big talent, but at this moment he remains untested and Klopp would be wise to keep him as an understudy for the time being.
