According to The Mirror, Liverpool are ready to open talks with Steven Gerrard about a reutrn to Anfield after he decided to snub Milton Keynes Dons.
Gerrard, 36, recently confirmed that he’s leaving Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy upon the expiration of his contract, and rumours have been rife about his destination.
Some thought that Gerrard would link up with former managers Brendan Rodgers or Rafael Benitez at Celtic and Newcastle respectively, but a surprise link emerged towards the end of last week.
Sky Sports reported that Milton Keynes Dons had offered their managerial job to Gerrard having seen fellow Liverpudlian Karl Robinson leave the club earlier this season.

However, The Mirror now report that Gerrard has rejected the chance to take over the League One club as he does’t want to rush into management, despite being impressed with the Dons – and that has opened the door for a possible return to Liverpool.
It’s claimed that Gerrard could take a coaching role with Liverpool and with the England national team as he looks to build up experience for an eventual career in management, and the report states that Liverpool are ready to open informal talks with Gerrard about a role on the Anfield coaching staff.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is happy to welcome Gerrard back to the club as he chases the Premier League title this season, but with a busy schedule coming up, he may wait until after the Christmas to hold more formal talks with the former Reds midfielder.
Gerrard’s role would allegedly be in the Liverpool academy, where a host of talented players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria are coming up through the ranks, and that will enable him to also work with the England side too as technical director Dan Ashworth chases talks with both Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
After 186 goals in 710 games for Liverpool, Gerrard may be on his way back to Anfield less than two years after leaving for the United States, and some fans may hope that a role on the coaching team can give Gerrard a platform to eventually become Liverpool manager.
