Newcastle United have been linked with a move to re-sign Andy Carroll.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United may force Andy Carroll to wait until next week to learn whether he’s coming back to St James’ Park.
The Magpies have added one striker in Joelinton, paying a club-record fee to sign the Brazilian – and he scored against Hibernian tonight to show his potential.
Yet with Joelinton inexperienced in English football, and a lack of other options in Steve Bruce’s attack, Newcastle should still look for one more striker, preferably one who knows the Premier League.
With that in mind, Newcastle have eyed up a shock move to re-sign Carroll, but The Chronicle’s latest report suggests that Newcastle may wait until next week to decide on a move.
That would take the move towards the transfer deadline, which isn’t a major concern given that Carroll can be signed outside of the window as a free agent.
It may just mean that Newcastle are looking at other strikers who would be needed before the deadline, and if they’re struggling, then they may go back for Carroll.
The 30-year-old is available after his West Ham United contract expired, and Bruce is believed to be an admirer of the giant target man despite his injury woes.
Carroll is attempting to get himself back fit again ahead of the new Premier League season, and a move to sign him – even for free – could be controversial.
Carroll grew up supporting Newcastle and came up through the ranks with the club, before leaving under a cloud for Liverpool in January 2011, and he faces a nervous wait to find out whether he will be signed again.
