According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has made Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard his number one target if he keeps his job.

The Magpies look set to be taken over by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund, Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers, though the £300million deal has dragged on.

Managers are already being linked with moves to Newcastle, with a big appointment possible. The new owners would likely want a new face to kickstart their project, leaving Bruce in the dark for now.

Still, it’s reported that Bruce has made a list of targets for if he keeps his job – and the top name on that list is Celtic striker Edouard.

It’s claimed that Bruce has made Edouard his top priority, with the idea of taking on Arsenal for his signature. Celtic allegedly value the Frenchman at around £30million.

Edouard, 22, has smashed 27 goals and 19 assists this season. Formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, Edouard has found a home at Celtic – and could now go for an even bigger fee than compatriot Moussa Dembele did.

He’s big and physical, but also quick and technically-gifted, possessing deadly free kicks and impressive link-up play to pick up so many assists.

Newcastle splashed the cash on Joelinton last summer, but saw him score just one Premier League goal. They will almost certainly go for another striker, and if Bruce gets his way, Edouard will be the top target.
