Sergio Reguilon had a pretty mixed first season at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Spaniard joined Spurs for £27 million for Real Madrid last summer and although he had a brilliant first half of the campaign in North London, the second half was a little, well, meh.
Jose Mourinho, who brought him to Tottenham, has been sacked by the Lilywhites and it remains to be seen if Nuno Espirito Santo, the long-awaited successor, can get the best out of him.
But if one rumour is true, he certainly has a plan on how to utilise Reguilon a little better.
The Spain international’s attacking quality has never been in doubt and Football London has reported that the newly-appointed Nuno could deploy Reguilon as more of a wing-back.’
The report that this plot is dependent on the signing of centre-back Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is heavily linked with a move to the club.
Exciting
It is exciting, yes.
In an ideal world, Reguilon would be just as capable in defence as he is going forward, but it isn’t an ideal world and not every left-back is an Ashley Cole.
He certainly showed just how good he is in attack last season, even when his form dipped.
And if Tottenham sign Tomiyasu, whilst being better able to utilise Reguilon, it could suit all parties.
