Aston Villa will seemingly have to see off a significant amount of competition if they hope to sign West Bromwich Albion’s Jake Livermore.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Aston Villa will have to see off competition from a number of clubs if they hope to complete a summer deal for West Brom’s Jake Livermore – while promotion is also a must for the Villans if they hope to have a chance.

The Sun on Sunday (08/04; page 13) reported at the weekend that Villa had put Livermore at the top of their summer wishlist as they continue to battle for promotion out of the Championship this season, and that the 28-year-old is set to cost around £10 million.

It has been a miserable season for Livermore and West Brom. The Baggies look destined to have their relegation confirmed in the coming weeks with 10 points separating them from safety and only 15 points still to play for this season.

But despite their struggles, the Daily Mail is reporting that a number of clubs are rivalling Villa for Livermore’s signature. And if Steve Bruce hopes to have a chance of landing the England international, his side must capitalise on their current position and secure promotion after two seasons in the second tier.

Is Livermore lucky?

West Brom’s squad this season appears to be littered with players who should be nowhere near the bottom of the table, and the Baggies fans are probably bracing themselves for their team to be ripped apart in the summer. Whether that is a positive or negative remains to be seen.

Livermore is one player who has under-performed this term. Some will always argue that he should not be anywhere near a place in the England squad regardless of his form, but he is still a very decent player when he is at his best and it appears that there is a queue of clubs forming in the hope that they could be able to help him put this poor year behind him.

A change of scene may help Livermore rediscover the form that got him into the England fold in the first place, but it is still something of a surprise that he will seemingly not be short of takers come the summer.
