Kamil Grosicki has told West Bromwich Albion that he plans to fight for his place after talks over a January move to Nottingham Forest collapsed, according to Polish publication Meczyki.
In the eyes of many Forest fans, a disastrous winter window was one of the main reasons why the wheels fell off their promotion charge in the second half of 2019/20.
Flash forward 12 months and the two-time European champions are closer to the bottom of the table than the top.
But after a recent upturn under Chris Hughton, Forest supporters were hoping that a handful of high-quality additions could provide the platform for a belated rise up the Championship table.
So far, however, the East Midland giants have missed out on two of their top midfield targets, with Doncaster Rovers captain Ben Whiteman on his way to Preston North End after Ireland international Jack Byrne swapped Shamrock Rovers for Cyprus.
According to Meczyki, Nottingham Forest have also been forced to accept defeat in their pursuit of a 32-year-old winger they have been trying to sign since the ill-fated Martin O’Neill era.

Grosicki missed out on a move to the City Ground in October by the skin of his teeth after the paperwork was delivered seconds after the deadline.
But, speaking to Sportowe Fakty, he admitted that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis had been back in touch, suggesting that a winter switch was on the cards.
That is no longer the case.
Talks have broken down, and Grosicki has since informed West Brom that he wants to prove himself under Sam Allardyce.
Interestingly, the report adds that the Poland international is due a pay rise at The Hawthorns. Grosicki’s wages will increase from £35,000 to £40,000-a-week the next time he makes a Premier League appearance.
