The 20-year-old looks set to sign for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers on a season-long loan after reportedly undergoing a medical at Ibrox.

Joe Worrall is Steven Gerrard’s first choice to fill Rangers’ final centre-back position, according to the Daily Mirror’s live blog [August 29th, 20:40].

The newspaper reports Worrall, the Nottingham Forest player, travelled the Glasgow earlier today [Wednesday] to undergo a medical with Rangers.

And it claims Gareth McAuley, most recently of West Bromwich Albion, and Tommy Elphick of Aston Villa were also considered by Gerrard, who favours the more youthful Worrall.

A regular in Nottingham Forest’s side last season, Worrall was watched six times by the new Ibrox manager – who recently described the 21-year-old as a ‘fantastic’ player – according to the Daily Mirror.

But the newspaper reports Forest are happy to let him leave on loan after spending in excess of £20 million on signings this summer.

And it claims Rangers have agreed to pay a fee to bring Worrall north of the border on loan.

The Nottingham Forest academy product would become the fifth senior centre-back on Rangers’ books, after Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Ross McCrorie and Kyle Bradley, and be eligible to feature in Sunday’s Old Firm.
