The Barnsley boss was reportedly close to becoming Nottingham Forest manager in 2017.

Nottingham Forest want to appoint Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom in time for Sunday’s FA Cup visit of Arsenal, the Sun reports on page 57 of its printed edition on Thursday.
It is claimed Heckingbottom could be persuaded to move having failed to sign a new contract at Barnsley, who are under new ownership.
In less than two years as manager, the 40-year-old has taken his boyhood club from 12th in League One and established them back in the Championship – having also led the Tykes to the 2016 Football League Trophy.

According to the Sun, Heckingbottom was close to becoming Nottingham Forest manager in 2017, but the position went to Mark Warburton instead.
Warburton led Forest to survival on the final day of last season, but was sacked on New Year’s Eve with the Reds 14th in the Championship.

Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka was thought to be the favourite for the City Ground post, while fellow Spaniard Oscar Garcia has also been linked.
