Nottingham Forest have been linked with Benfica’s Joao Carvalho.

Benfica's midfielder Joao Carvalho gives a press conference at Luz stadium in Lisbon, on December 4, 2017, on the eve of the Champions League match, group A, SL Benfica vs Basel.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest are set to sign Benfica’s Joao Carvalho in a £13 million deal while fellow 21-year-old Diogo Goncalves is expected to follow on loan.

Forest are looking to bolster their squad this summer as they look to challenge for promotion next season, and it appears they are taking a leaf out of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ book by linking up with Jorge Mendes.

The renowned super-agent helped Wolves acquire several top-class players last term, culminating in the west Midlands side romping to the Championship title in quite spectacular fashion.

Forest have spent almost two decades outside the top-flight but acquiring a player of Carvalho’s ability could push them closer to a Premier League return.

The talented midfielder came through the Benfica youth academy and began to feature for the first-team over the past 12 months, impressing enough to earn international recognition with the Portugal U21 side.

Carvalho is predominantly an attacking midfielder boasting plenty of creativity, a key ingredient which Forest sorely missed last season as they struggled to find goals with regularity.

Boss Aitor Karanka will be desperate to bolster his attacking options this summer and signing Carvalho would represent a real coup for the club with his ability to play in several attacking positions a real plus.

The Daily Mail claim his fellow Benfica teammate Golcalves is also expected to arrive at the City Ground on loan, with the attacking wide man another to break into the Portuguese giants’ first-team picture over the past 12 months.
