Nottingham Forest target Mattias Johansson is now a free agent after bidding farewell to his Panathinaikos team-mates on Tuesday, according to SDNA.
For a club who have frequently let themselves down in the recruitment stakes in recent seasons, Forest have boxed rather clever in the transfer market during the Sabri Lamouchi era.
Samba Sow, Sammy Ameobi, Brice Samba and other players without ‘Sam’ in their name have helped Nottingham Forest establish themselves as bonafide promotion candidates in 2019/20.
And, as PageNews pointed out in early June, the East Midland giants are keen to reinforce their ranks with the signing of a three-time Sweden international.
Former AZ Alkmaar right-back Johansson has spent the last three years in Greek football but, with his contract due to expire in the summer, it always looked likely that this season would be his last in the grass-green hue of Panathinaikos.
SDNA is now reporting that Johansson is one of three players who departed The Shamrocks this week, saying goodbye to the rest of the squad and the coaching staff.
So if Nottingham Forest are keen to add an experienced, 28-year-old full-back to their squad without spending a penny, they will not have a better opportunity to do exactly that this summer.
