Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to sign Alan Hutton following his release from Aston Villa.

Nottingham Forest are on the verge of winning the race to sign Alan Hutton, according to The Sun on Sunday (23/6; page 60), with the defender currently a free agent following his release from Aston Villa.
Hutton left the Villans at the end of this past season after making 33 appearances as Dean Smith’s men clinched a spot in the Premier League with a win in the Championship play-off final.
And it appears that he may get an opportunity to try and help another sleeping giant of English football get back to where they arguably belong.
The Sun on Sunday (23/6; page 60) reports that Hutton has spoken to several second tier sides, but is closing in on a move to the City Ground with Martin O’Neill’s men offering the best terms and presenting the 34-year-old with the chance to stay close to his current home.

Shrewd move from Forest?
Hutton may not have been the most popular figure for the entirety of his spell with Villa, but he earned a lot of respect towards the end of his time at Villa Park, particularly after scoring a wondergoal in the Second City derby.
Forest fans will be hoping that there are more exciting signings to come. But on a free transfer, a deal for Hutton could be a good piece of business, especially with his ability to play on either flank.
